Five Things to Know for Your New Day – Friday, September 19

Scotland votes to keep the United Kingdom united. The U.S. is ready to strike ISIS in Syria. And a Home Depot hack exposes more than 50 million credit and debit cards.

It's Friday, and here are the 5 things to know for your New Day

1. SCOTLAND VOTE

A wee important referendum: Scotland will remain part of the United Kingdom - along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland - following a historic referendum vote. A majority of voters rejected the possibility of Scotland breaking away and becoming an independent nation. UK Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed Scotland's decision in a televised statement outside 10 Downing Street.

2. ISIS

Waiting for the word: The U.S. military has everything it needs to strike ISIS inside Syria and is awaiting President Barack Obama's authorization to do so, U.S. military officials tell CNN. For weeks, intelligence and military targeting specialists have been working around the clock on a list of targets. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel told the House Armed Services Committee yesterday that he and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey signed off on plans to strike ISIS in Syria.

3. FLORIDA SHOOTING DEATHS

Murder-suicide: A man shot and killed his daughter and six grandchildren yesterday in the Florida town of Bell in what authorities called a murder-suicide. Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz identified the shooter as Don Spirit, 51, and the daughter as Sarah Spirit, 28. The sheriff told reporters the children - three boys and three girls - ranged in age from 3 months to 11 years.

4. JETBLUE FLIGHT

Scary trip, safe landing: Many wept. Some prayed. But after their smoke-filled plane rattled to an emergency landing, passengers had a new lease on life, as they exited a JetBlue flight yesterday via inflatable chutes. A signal alerted pilots that an engine was overheating, fire department spokesman Jake Heflin told CNN affiliate KCAL. The pilots deployed extinguishers. Flight 1416 had left Long Beach Airport about 15 minutes before and was over the ocean, carrying 147 passengers and crew headed for Austin, Texas, when it had to turn back.

5. HOME DEPOT

Hacked: Home Depot told us yesterday that hackers exposed 56 million credit and debit cards during a recent security breach. The company also said it had eliminated the malware behind the attack from its payment systems. The company is offering identity protection services to any customers who used a card in its stores since April. A lot of folks with Home Depot credit cards will be getting new account numbers too.

Saying "Victoria Park, Ontario Canada" is like saying "Victoria Park, Texas USA". Any idea what city?

Michael McNamara is not playing "Foxgang Amadeus" on a street piano. The piano is named Foxgang Amadeus, obviously due the large graphic of a fox on the front of the piano with a play on Wolfgang Amadeus. Michael is playing "Say Something" by A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera.

What a disgusting, sickening, horrible tragedy. What man for whatever rhyme or reasons murders his innocent daughter and her SIX innocent beautiful children? They were his grandchildren. Then the coward kills himself.
