Five Things to Know for Your New Day – Friday, April 4

The search begins for fading pings from the Malaysian jet's data recorders. A community asks why after the Fort Hood shooting. And severe weather hits the central United States.

It's Friday, and here are the 5 things to know for your "New Day."

Nation asks why: A man opens fire at a military base, gunning down fellow soldiers before killing himself. A hero steps in, trying to stop him. A community already scarred by war is left reeling  five years after another shooter hit the same base. Two days after a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, left three soldiers dead, key questions loom. Why? What made 34-year-old Spc. Ivan Lopez pull the trigger?

New search, old clues: The guessing game continues as the underwater search for the Malaysian jet starts in the southern Indian Ocean. Time is running out in the efforts to detect pings from Flight 370's data recorders - the batteries that power the recorders' beacons are expected to run out in the coming days. And there are no new clues on the underwater search. It's based on the same data investigators used to determine shifting search areas in recent weeks.

Tornado season:  Spring's here, and it's ready to rumble. Just ask the central part of the nation, which got pounded by hail, rain and tornadoes. It was not immediately clear whether there were any injuries or damage from the severe weather yesterday.

Last laugh: Three decades of "Late Show" are coming to an end. We know, we know, David Letterman's surprise sign-off is a year from now. But let's pause for a moment and process this. And think really hard about who will replace the host of the popular CBS show. Of course, Jay Leno's available!

Good news, Earthlings: Here's some unlikely beachfront territory.  Or unrivaled real estate, or whatever you prefer to call it. A new study shows a sea of water the size of Lake Superior splashes inside one of Saturn's moons. That means Saturn's sixth-largest moon could have been - or could now be - hospitable to life. Hmm, a one-way ticket to Saturn is starting to look pretty darn good!

Those are your five biggies for the day. Here are a few others that are brewing and have the Internet buzzing.

#runBostonrun: This video's dedicated to this iconic city as its marathon approaches. It sums up the phrase "Boston Strong" in a spectacular way.

Epic fall: This pup fails to land on the couch in a spectacular way. Poor lil' guy might need a cuddle after that.

Whatever it takes: This elk can't figure out this whole fence-jumping thing. But the ending will melt your heart.

There you go. All you need to know to get an early start to your morning.

Look on this CNN site for anything regarding the GOP "Save the American
Worker Bill" that would redefine the definition of full-time back to 40
where it has always been so that workers can get more hours and be able
to afford insurance, rather than suffer under the ridiculous 30 hour
definition of full-time that the ACA currently has. This is what
happens when lawmakers charged with knowing what they are passing do not
read the proposed legislation and pass it according to their party's
agenda. Companies will always manage expenses, and the way they are
managing the ACA is by cutting hours to the new definition of full-time.
Of course, the government knew this, which is why all those people
must go to the exchange and get massive subsidies of our tax dollars.
It is all about government dependence, not independence. Enslaved
people vote to survive. Independent people make wise choices.
Shouldn't workers be able to have a better paycheck? Full-time is
defined as 40 hours when it comes to overtime. All we are
    asking for is consistency.
