One-Way Ticket to Mars

Army Officer Heidi Beemer has been the first finalist selected to travel to Mars with the Mars One mission– a project that aims to establish a small colony of humans on the red planet by 2025. If Heidi goes, she will be one of 24 people who will leave Earth FOREVER to live, research and experiment on Mars. We talked with Heidi about her brave ambition to take on this project and if she has any fears of leaving her friends and family for this miraculous mission.

Heidi was one of my freshman (rat) English comp students at Virginia Military Institute, where I taught for 22 years. I always ask each freshman what they want to be when they grow up. Heidi said, day one of class, that she was going to be an astronaut and was going to Mars. I believed her then, and I certainly believe her now.

    Go, Heidi, go!! RVM!!
