The winter storm roars, again. Verdict due any day now  in the killing of a Florida teen over loud music. And the U.S. takes on Russia in Olympic men's curling.

It's Friday, and here are the “5 Things to Know for Your New Day."

1. WINTER STORM

Hear it roar, again: Enough, already. Really, weather gods, you win. This winter storm is proving to be  a pain in the you-know-where. Just when the Southeast got some relief yesterday, the storm roared to the Northeast. Snow, sleet and pellets of freezing rain tumbled from the sky. And the end is far from over. Another round was expected to hit the region overnight, with some places in Massachusetts seeing up to 24 inches of snow before the storm runs its course.  It's also brought its share of tragedy. At least 16 deaths have been blamed on the storm nationwide. Despite its messy trail, it's had some light moments.

2. LOUD MUSIC TRIAL

Verdict watch: Day two of jury deliberations ended without a verdict yesterday. The sequestered jury continues today in the trial of a Florida man accused of shooting a teen to death over a loud music altercation. Michael Dunn, 47, is charged with first degree murder in the death of Jordan Davis, 17, at a gas station parking lot.  Dunn says he acted in self-defense when he opened fire on four teenagers in an SUV in Jacksonville in November 2012.  Prosecutors contend it was an act of murder. The jury contends … well, that’s what we’re yet to find out. But meanwhile, the jurors are asking for more details, including the surveillance video from the gas station where the shooting occurred.

Michael Dunn’s defense attorney joins at 7 and CNN legal analysts Jeffery Toobin and Sunny Hostin will break down the case for us at 8.

3. OSCAR PISTORIUS

CNN exclusive: A year ago today, South African Oscar Pistorius fatally shot his girlfriend,  model Reeva Steenkamp. The celebrated paralympic athlete never denied killing her, but says he mistook her for an intruder. And he’s breaking his silence during the anniversary of the tragic day that changed his life forever.  "No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved – and continues to love Reeva," he said in a statement this morning.  He also tweeted today for the first time since her killing. CNN has exclusive photos of the couple in happier times.

4. PACKAGE BOMB

Son-in-law arrested: Authorities say they have the who. Now the question remains why.  Why did a son-in-law allegedly plant a package bomb that exploded at the home of his wife’s parents? Federal officials say a note was attached to the package that exploded Monday, tearing through the couple’s house in rural Tennessee. Days later, neighbors remain bewildered and authorities are not disclosing the motive. Investigators arrested the son-in-law yesterday.  Richard Parker, 49, faces  two counts of felony first-degree murder.

5. WINTER OLYMPICS

Race for gold:  Today’s events include freestyle skiing aerials, men’s figure skating and men's curling. And the face-off between Russia and the United States in the latter is a must-watch. Sure, they have combined for just two wins, but c'mon. It's U-S-A versus Russia! You'll also want to watch the unbeaten Chinese take on the world champion Swedes. And who said wardrobe malfunctions only happen during awards ceremonies? In the slopestyle qualifying runs yesterday, Sweden's Henrik Harlaut nearly flashed the world when his saggy pants dropped. Um, good thing he had on that pair of stretchy blue undergarments thingis.  He finished in sixth^th place. But it’s safe to say he won first place in the backside exposure category.
