Coaches Under Fire for Blackface

Two high school football coaches in San Diego are now under investigation after a picture of them surfaced on Facebook.

It shows the Serra High School coaches dressed up for a Halloween party as the Jamaican bobsled team—in blackface.

Now the local NAACP is calling for them to be fired - while parents and some players are rushing to their defense.

CNN’s Nischelle Turner reports the mixed reaction of those who are saying the coaches should be accountable and those who think the situation has been blown out of proportion.

Turner says, “They have apologized to their team but they are still being investigated by their school.”

So we can make a movie called "White Chicks" where the lead actors are not white and that's all passed by. Enough with the race card already. It's a character, not a statement about the history of a people.

Sigh.. this racial things is gone too far now. It's almost like ppl dont have a sense of humour any more. I'm black and I'm Jamaican and I dont see anything wrong with it.. I would more like laugh at it caws its a neat idea and it's funny. I'm getting tired of ppl with nothing better to do trying to cause a fuss of simple matters. They are only making racism more popular. All races are the same, only difference is skin colour variations, but everything else internal is of the same anatomy. So whats the big deal, like really??? Its time we mature pass these little things and the Greater World needs to grow up pass Racism because it is really just mind over matter and if we dont get rid of that then the World will just continue tearing itself apart because of selfish minded ppl. Big up to those 2 coaches because i found it funny 🙂 ... I'm not think skinned

It's not about the black face, its about what you do with it. If a white guy goes as bill cosby or 50Cent for that matter, he is going to need to darken the skin and I don't see anything wrong with that. Now if they darken the skin just so they can act stupid or jump around like a monkey, then yes it is both offensive and wrong. In this case, dressing as black guys who were going to the olympics is going as someone who is a role model who happens to be black. If you are under 70 years old, you have no idea what black face means and like words in the world, meanings change. Let's put on black face because blacks aren't allowed in the picture shows and we need a idiot to pick on – yea... not quite the same now with a black prez, AG, administration, other leaders, CIO's, CEO's and lets not forget the music industry and sports. You could argue it's better to be black than white nowadays...

The difference bettween other races being red riding hood, peter pan etc, is they are not puttiing white faces on their face...and if they did, who cares, because history will tell you what "black face" originally stood for and it is offensive to me and anyone that has some sense about it. I dont think these gentemen should be fired, but i do think society as whole is being ignorant on all these costumes that have come out this year with "black face" why? have we became such a hateful society that we reverting back racism being more prevalent. i dont like racist acts on any race. it will always exist, but something has made society feel so comforatable that we, yes we as a society are reverting back and thinking it is ok.....

Jamaican bobsled team are black. It does not make them good or bad. it is just a fact. So if someone want to dress up as them should be think about "face collar". It is absolutely same situation when white actor put paint on his face to plat Othello. Or black actors "change his skin" to play white guy. For example Eddie Murphy did it. Or what about movie Whit chicks"? Why nobody scream about racism? Here we have same situation. People dress up to play specific role...

So if someone dresses up as michael JAckson complete with coloration of there skin tone for Halloween which is a dramatic transformation of ones outer self usually. Whose going to say this is wrong-and not just idolization. Can't pick and choose which 'character' to chastise it all has to be a grey.

I did not get it. If someone dress as woman on Halloween he will be under investigation too? What’s next? Fight for zombie rights?
Disney made nice movie about Jamaican bobsled team, and main characters are black. Why white guy could not dress up as black character? We are never complaining, when we see not-white Peter Pan, Robin Hood, Red Hood and many others. Why revers situation should be different?

Serra student said it best...WOW...a school whose mascot was involved in mass genocide has decided to now become politically correct...shame on the NAACP, Sally Smith (what's next on her agenda, something as she is always trolling), and Cindi Martin, if there truly is a suspension...what teachers, coaches and staff chose to do in their off time so long as they are not breaking the law is their business...where is the anti defamation league when individulas dress as any other race...it's time to move beyond the color of ones skin and look at the content of ones character...ohh and Spates I've read somewhere that teachers are not supposed to interject their political beliefs on their students...one look at your car and its bumper sticker paint job or your one sided political discussions in class indicates you may have breached that protocol, and don't call free speech when it suits you but not allow it for others...look who's calling the kettle black...oops did I offend you with that comment...
