Ohio Coroner Disputes Ariel Castro's Cause of Death

An Ohio medical examiner contradicted reports that kidnapper Ariel Castro died from auto-erotic asphyxiation.

Franklin Country coroner Paula Gorniak's statement Thursday night disputed allegations from Ohio corrections officials that the man who kidnapped, held captive and raped three girls for nearly 10 years, died accidentally in his jail cell.

Castro was found in his cell dangling from a bed sheet with his pants and underwear down, corrections officials said. But that's not enough evidence to back up the notion, Gorniak said. His pants may have slipped off while he was hanging, she said.

Gorniak said she was not made aware that Castro was found with his pants down in the jail cell, but that does not change the cause of death.

There were no signs that he was sexually stimulated, she said.

"I did the autopsy myself. I saw the ligature. I saw the pictures of the cell. It was a suicide."

“During his month in state prison, officials say Castro was given more than one mental health evaluation and ‘indicated no current suicidal thoughts or past attempts to hurt himself.’ As a result, he was not placed on suicide watch,” reports CNN’s Pamela Brown.

“And the probe also found two prison guards allegedly failed to routinely check on Castro at staggered 30 minute intervals like they were supposed to and even created false logs to make it look like they did, including five false entries the day Castro died. They have been placed on administrative leave while authorities investigate.”

I'm sorry, but do we really care? The fact is, he chose to die. If it was accidental, it's because he was still indulging his perverted sexual tendencies, and certainly knew the risks. If he chose to take that risk, then he got what he asked for.

If it was suicide, then that was also his choice. Why should we care if he wanted to die? The pig was facing the rest of his miserable life in a cell, and most likely in isolation to protect him from the other prisoners who were likely to want to subject him to the same brutality he inflicted on his victims. He was never going to see his family again, since they were disgusted by him and what he did, and he certainly was never going to see his children, including the daughter he fathered with Amanda Berry.

The world is better off without this scum – and so are his victims. In fact, this outcome was the BEST possible scenario for that little girl. It will be hard enough, when she's older, to find out how she came into this world. At the very least, she won't have to feel any obligation to visit or even write to Castro, or fear that he might come after her someday. She will have the peace of knowing he is NEVER going to be back in her life, in any way – and her mother and the other girls have that peace too.

In the end, whether it was an accident or intentional suicide is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that this monster is dead – and good riddance!!
