The White House announced Monday that Sunny – a one-year-old female Portugese Water Dog from Michigan – will be the second "first pet." They claim Bo just wasn't getting enough dog interaction in his day-to-day. CNN's Athena Jones reports.
Bo joined the family in 2009 after President Obama's first election. To show his appreciation to his daughters for their commitment to his campaign, the president said:
"Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House."
The Obamas prefer this breed because the dogs are hypoallergenic.
They say "Sunny" is the perfect name for a pup who's full of energy and affection.
