A second body has been pulled from New York's Hudson River after a horrific boating accident on Friday night struck a party of six.
“This was meant to be a celebratory cruise on the water just two weeks before a wedding,” reports CNN’s Alina Cho. “But not long after leaving a marina Friday night, this boat ride quickly turned fatal.”
Lindsey Stewart and Brian Vaughn were planning to marry on August 10th. The bride-to-be and her fiancé’s best man, Chris Lennon, were ejected when the boat slammed into a construction barge in the darkness.
Both Stewart and Lennon were killed. The groom is among the four survivors and is still in the hospital with severe head injuries.
But the investigation now turns to what happened and when.
“Authorities say the driver of the boat, also a friend of the couple, was intoxicated, charged with vehicular manslaughter and vehicle assault,” Cho says.
“Investigators are also looking into claims the barge that the boat hit did not have proper lighting.”
Meanwhile, rather than rejoice at a wedding, the families of the victims will now gather at their wakes.
Lindsey Stewart's stepfather, Walter Kosik told CNN, “Pray for our loss.”
