Fire danger on the rise

  • Gusty winds and dry conditions increase fire threat over Southwest US
  • Severe risk in the plains increases threat of lightning
  • Continuing to monitor fires near Yosemite National Park

Stormy east

  • Afternoon storms likely across the east coast
  • Slight severe risk in Ohio Valley
  • Localized flooding possible, such as seen in St. Louis yesterday

Tropical Depression 2

  • Moving west northwest with a turn to the west expected by tomorrow night
  • Tonight: will move over northern Guatemala and Eastern Mexico
  • No change in strength expected, currently at 30 mph
  • Life-threating flashing flooding and mudslides possible with rain 3-5” and locally 10” maximums
