Thieves Talk Historic 1971 FBI Burglary

On March 8, 1971 , the "Fight of the Century" aired on televisions across the world– a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. While all eyes were on the ring that night, nine burglars broke into a FBI field office in Pennsylvania and stole boxes of secret documents from the Hoover administration.

Two of those thieves– Bonnie and John Raines– recently came forward and admitted to the crime. Former Washington Post reporter Betty Medsger wrote a book about the break-in and their confession. The trio joined New Day to talk about the motive behind the burglary and the Hoover intimidation tactics that the documents revealed.

We asked them: Did this break-in change the trajectory of American history?
