Breaking news this morning – the hostage standoff in St. Joseph, Louisiana, has ended. Police say the 20-year-old suspect opened fire on his hostages when officers entered the building, CNN's Alina Machado reports.

Louisiana State Police shot and killed Fuaed Abdo Ahmed as they stormed the Tensas State Bank, just before midnight local time.

"We don't know exactly what he wanted specifically, authorities are still working to determine a motive," says Machado. "But, they're saying that mental illness may have played a role in what happened here."
