U.S. Citizens Ordered to Leave Yemen

A rising terror threat is triggering a new warning from the State Department this morning ordering all Americans to leave Yemen immediately.

"The warning comes after a pair of suspected U.S. drone strikes there left four al Qaeda members dead," reports Chris Cuomo.

"The U.S. has flown in a pair military transport aircraft to help get Americans out of Yemen."

CNN’s Barbara Starr reports that those aircraft are "expected to land in Germany in the coming hours with about 90 Americans onboard."

The embassy currently has only a central personnel there and will remain shut for several days.

“What set off the alarm bells across Washington was an intercepted message from Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al Qaeda in Pakistan, to a man named Wuhayshi in Yemen. He is the leader of al Qaeda in Yemen,” Starr reports.

“It was clearly, the U.S. believes, a message to order an attack.”

This message is what prompted the shut-down of 19 embassies and consulates across the Middle East and Africa.
