In today's edition of "The Good Stuff," hardworking college student Betsy Holmes.
Holmes scrimped and saved $400 in cash for a new laptop. She had it in a plain envelope, no stamp, that she wrote "deposit" on. She also had a stack of mail for the post office and somehow, the envelope with the cash got mixed in with the stack of mail, and went into the mailbox.
The money left the post office and went all the way to the processing center that moved 3 million pieces of mail a day. Surely somebody had to have found the cash and snagged it by then, right? Wrong.
And eagle-eyed mail handler noticed the envelope, noticed the return address of Holmes' employer on the back, and 2 days later, Betsy Holmes had it back. Postage paid, and not a dollar missing.
